What else can you expect from lamebrained Tamil movie directors?
Yet another love story. That's right.
Featuring Madhavan and newcomer Meera Jasmine, Run offers Tamil movie fans little that's new.
College student Siva (Madhavan) falls in love with Priya (Meera Jasmine), the sister of a notorious rowdy played with much elan by Atul Kulkarni.
Priya warns Siva to stay away from her because her thuggish brother has a habit of chopping off the hands of boys who dare to woo her.
But so overwhelming is Siva's love for Priya that he's undeterred by Priya's brother and his gang of thugs.
The movie is one unending cycle of mindless violence - fights, fights and more fights where Madhavan is the one-man army vanquishing all the goons that Atul Kulkarni sends to thwart him.
Madhavan and Atul Kulkarni are the two pillars of this movie. Both turn in solid performances that must have been the envy of their peers.
Surely, it must have been their stellar performance that made this movie a phenomenal hit with the audience.
Besides the repetitive love theme, what drags the movie down into the average category is the lack of screen chemistry between Madhavan and the Malayalee actress Meera Jasmine.
Run has above average music. We particularly liked two songs - Kadhal Pisasu and Theradi Veethiyil.
One of the few good Tamil actors, Raghuvaran is a delight to watch as Siva's brother-in-law.
A Hindi version of Run was made in 2004 starring Abhishek Bachchan, Bhumika Chawla and Mahesh Manjrekar. - Copyright SearchIndia.com
