Pokiri - Fine Pongal Gift for Tamil Movie Lovers >
Pokiri is a first class Pongal gift for Tamil movie lovers worldwide.
Loaded with charm, the highlights of Pokiri include an above average story, solid performance by Vijay ably supported by Asin and superb music.
A remake of the successful Telugu film of the same name starring Mahesh Babu and Ileana D'Cruz, Pokiri is a riveting and slick film focusing on the activities of a vicious criminal called Tamil (Vijay).
Unlike most Tamil movies where love occupies centerstage to the exclusion of everything else, director Prabhudeva has deftly integrated the love angle featuring the talented actress Asin into Tamil's violent life.
While Vijay's breakout performance in Pokiri sent our pulses racing, the glowingly beautiful Asin delights with a sparkling performance.
The love scenes featuring Vijay and Asin were done with finesse, particularly the scene where Asin learns to whistle.
Pokiri has more than its share of violence but the stunt scenes are mostly well handled by Tamil movie standards.
Music director Mani Sharma has done a superb job. Our favorite songs in Pokiri were Nee Mutham and En Sela Peru but we also liked Doli Doli, Vasantha Mulai and the Pokkiri theme music.
Prakash Raj is effective as the villain Ali Bhai.
Just when things had started to drag a bit towards the end, Pokiri throws in a clever twist adding to the pleasure of watching this film.
One thing Pokiri could have avoided is the Vadivelu comic angle. Most of the time, the comedy scenes involving Vadivelu are crude beyond belief.
In summary, Pokiri is a delightful movie and the clear winner in the Pongal race between Pokiri and Aalwar. - Copyright SearchIndia.com.
