What can one say about a Tamil movie that has absolutely no redeeming qualities?
This is yet another Tamil film that should never have seen the light of the day - it's disgusting at every level.
Jyothika's performance in Mayaavi should rank as the low point of her unimpressive career.
In a change from his usual action styles movies where he's bashing up 10 bad elements simultaneously, Surya plays a poor tourist guide and small-time thief in Mayaavi.
when Balaiah (Surya) is not conning foreign tourists in the tourist town of Mahabalipuram, he's whiling away his money and time on watching movies including those featuring Jyothika.
In Mayaavi, Jyothika plays herself i.e. the movie star of the same same.
Forever broke and out of desperation, one day Balaiah and his buddy Satyaraj (Satyan) decide to rob a mansion.
So, Whaddayathink happens?
Yes, the mansion turns out to be Jyothika's house. Once Balaiah sees Jyothika in the house, he has a change of heart and decides not to take anything. Nevertheless, he's caught by the cops and thrashed at the police station. When Jyothika subsequently gives a complaint that Balaiah tried to molest her, he's sent to prison for three months.
Balaiah returns from prison vowing vengeance on the chubby film actress. He quickly kidnaps her.
If you thought the movie was bad till now, it moves into awful territory from here on.
But for the title song Mayaavi, all the other songs in Mayaavi are sleep-inducing tunes. Particularly terrible is the Seettu Kattu Rani Pole song sequence featuring Jyothika and Surya. - Copyright SearchIndia.com.
