One of the few Tamil movie stars with acting capabilities, Padmapriya Janakiraman is also an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer.
With an oval face and pleasing smile, the lissome girl is a sight for sore eyes.
Although Padmapriya is less known compared to other Tamil movie stars like Asin, Trisha and Nayantara, she is a far superior actress than most of her peers in South India.
In the Tamil movie Satham Podathey, Padmapriya has rendered a solid performance as the wife - and later ex-wife - of a psychotic hockey coach. Padmapriya's first film Thavamai Thavamirundhu opposite Cheran proved to be a hit at the box office.
Padmapriya belongs to the group of talented actresses like Navya Nair, Sandhya and Meera Jasmine.
Besides Tamil, Padmapriya has acted in Telugu and Malayalam films as well and is the winner of some 15 awards.
Recently Padmapriya was in the news after director Samy slapped her on the sets while she was filming for the Tamil movie Mirugam (animal). Aaparently, Samy was unhappy with her performance and slapped her. The incident caused a furore after Padmapriya complained to the Federation of Film Workers, Tamil Film Producers Council and South Indian Artistes Association.
Following the slapping incident, the film industry imposed a one-year ban on the director Samy.
Daughter of Brigadier (Retd) V.K. Janakiraman and Mrs. Vijaya Janakiraman, Padmapriya holds an MBA degree from Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies and worked at GE as a risk consultant for a while.
