Low donations but not too bad for a film with relatively unknown actors.

Taking of complete neglect, it seems the first thing that got thrown out from the back door at Cannes is Vishwaroopam. It finds no mention in festival section of 2012. 😀

Here is how I imagine the conversation would have went…
“You see Mr. Haasan it seems you have mistaken Cannes for Kannamapettai film festival. We saw your film and 10 minutes into it we really felt it deserves to be carried on your broad shoulders with the help of 3 other men to Kannamapettai where it will find its true peers.

However, your film has pushed us to review and strengthen the rules for submission to Cannes. Going forward you will find that all the loopholes have been plugged.

We wish you all the best for your film at Kannamapetti Thiruvizha and we do welcome you to Cannes to watch how truly brilliant films are made.”

However good an India movie is if it does not feature the Khans or Akshay Kumar it stands little chance at the box office and often fails to get a wide release.

In re the dismal fate of Kamal Hassan’s Vishwaroopam at Cannes 2012, we’re not in the least surprised. To repeat what we wrote on February 29, 2012 Kanda kanda kaenaikku Cannes kanavu (All kinds of idiots dreams of Cannes)! 🙁

Kamal Hassan is a name that resonates only with a small section of moviegoers in Tamil Nadu, who misguidedly believe he’s an unrecognized genius. Little do these schmucks know that their idol is a two-bit thief and buffoon.
