We’re suckers for anything old.
Why do you think we’re besotted with budiyas like Rajshri, Ingrid Bergman, Audrey Hepburn, Madhavi, Tabu, Meenakshi Seshadri, Vimala Raman et al. 😉
It being Friday, we sauntered over to Apple’s digital media store iTunes and bought ourselves a bunch of mostly old Hindi songs, tracks that we’ve already listened to a billion times over the decades. OK, if that sounds like hyperbole to you let’s just say a million times, shall we.
Here are the nonpareil tracks we purchased for our iPhone and PC today:
* Zindagi Ek Safar – from the Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Shammi Kapoor film Andaz (1971).
* Gaadi Bula Rahi Hai – This one is from the old film XXXX – can you guess which one? No, you can’t? Hey, it’s Dost (1974).
* Chahiye Thoda Pyaar – A fast-paced number from the Vinod ‘Osho’s Gardner‘ Khanna, Shabana Azmi film Lahu Ke Do Rang (1979).
* O Mere Sanam – My, my, this one is really old. From the early 1960s film Sangam (Raj Kapoor, Rajendra Kumar, Vyjayantimala).
* Pachchai Kili – One of our all-time Tamil favorites featuring Makkal Thilagam M.G.Ramachandran from the film Ulagam Sutram Valiban (1973).
Since all you folks here are quidnuncs, let’s quickly satiate your curiosity – we paid 99-cents for each track.
Go away now.
We’re listening to Kishore Kumar croon Zindagi Ek Safar as we watch Rajesh Khanna and Hema Malini cavort around town on a motorbike.

SI have you seen Jab We Met?
If not, I highly recommend you Kanden Kadhalai. It is a remake of JWM with tharu maaru comedy.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
1. Yes, we watched Jab We Met on DVD.
Listened to Yeh Ishq Hai song a million times.
2. Kanden Kadhalai is not releasing on the East Coast.
The nearest theatre is some 1,000 KM away. Is the skinny Tamanna worth traveling 1,000 KM?
Gaadi bula rahi hai (on Dharmendra, by Kishore Kumar) is a fine song.
Far lesser songs of Kishore have become far more popular.
Although Sangam has several nice songs, my favourite is Yeh mear prem patra padhkar (Mohd. Rafi, on Rajendra Kumar).
O mehbooba tere dil ke paas hee hai meri ..is also nice.
Director Raj Kapoor wanted Tragedy King Dileep Kumar along with himself and Vyjayantimala for Sangam, but was turned down by Dileep.
Rajendra Kumar filled in the place of Dileep, and played the tragic fella to good effect. An aging, pot-bellied Raj Kapoor himself was grossly miscast as an officer of Indian army/navy/airforce.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
1. O mehbooba tere dil ke paas is a nice song too. It was part of the Sangam 33 1/3 vinyl record we owned a gazillion years ago.
2. BTW, we just got Bollywood Dreams a.k.a. Rangeela in the mail. Will watch it tomorrow.
I hope you have good time watching Rangeela.
I dont think you are going to watch London Dreams, right ?
Or will you ? You never know with SI.
The movie is supposedly inspired by Amadeus.
Sad that Vipul Shah, who directed decent movies like Aankhen and Waqt-The race against time, has now come to this (via Namaste London and Singh is King (as producer)).
Anyways it is hard to imagine Indian heroes as rock stars for desi junta like me, let alone middle aged fellas like Devgn and Salman.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
1. No, we have no
plansintention of watching London Dreams. We learned yesterday that London Dreams draws heavily from Amadeus.
2. This weekend it’s going to be Arya (Telugu), Rangeela (Hindi), Iruvar (Tamil), Gore Vidal’s essays and the Sunday NYT.
