Shahrukh Khan’s latest crap-show Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has stormed the U.S. box office for the first two days of its opening weekend, according to studio estimates.Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi opened at No-15 and had a total gross of $1.25 million.
Like Democracy
Hey, the box office performance of Bollywood movies is like democracy.
Occasionally, even total garbage like Rod Blagojevich rise to the top. So, don’t be swayed by the box office numbers of the crappy Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.
Its box office performance notwithstanding, we still consider Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi to be a piece of junk compared to fine made-in-India movies like Slumdog Millionaire.
If you have not seen this act of breathtaking inanity (as if a wife can’t recognize her husband without a moustache), consider yourself blessed. And unless you have oodles of cash and lots of time to burn, do yourself a favor and skip this piece of odious trash.
We think the early response is merely due to the curiosity value of a new SRK movie (and lack of decent alternatives) because it’s hard to believe that this poor excuse for entertainment can get good word of mouth publicity.
Here’s how Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi fared in comparison to other Bollywood movies at the U.S. box office (we are comparing a two-day opening weekend for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi against three-day opening weekend for the other movies).
Here’s an excerpt from SearchIndia.com’s review of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi:
Total garbage.
Immune to our cries of mercy, oblivious to our pain and without a flicker of remorse, two Bollywood veterans unleash a 167-minute cruel nightmare in Rab Nahin Bana Di Yeh Bosudi oops Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi that boggles the mind.
What were the devil’s apprentices Aditya Chopra and Shahrukh Khan thinking, if they were thinking at all, when they made this piece of trash.
With no story worth speaking of save a newly married uxorious husband Surinder Sahni (Shahrukh Khan) making a monkey of himself to get his young wife Taani (Anushka Sharma) to love him, an inept screenplay that makes junk like Yuvvraaj and Drona look glorious, mediocre acting by Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma that make the grotesque Tamil film stars seem great and soporific dialogs that have less life in them than Manmohan Singh’s speeches, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi heaps more shame on Bollywood and fresh infamy on the fading Yash Raj Films banner.
And mucho disgrace on Shahrukh Khan and Aditya Chopra as well.
To ask the audience to believe that a woman can’t recognize her husband just because he’s removed his moustache and donned a flashy dress (and even after practising dancing with him for several days) is to suggest that Indian moviegoers need a brain-transplant.
