What New York is to America and London to England, Mumbai is to India.
Only 100 times magnified.
So many millions of words have been said on this teeming metropolis that it seems doubtful anything – forget interesting – could ever be left unsaid about Mumbai.
Heck, no.
Good writers have the ability to always draw our attention on any subject through the force of their words.
In yesterday’s NewYork Times, Anand Giridharadas has a nice piece on Mumbai.
Here’s a brief excerpt:
Luscious skyscrapers sprout beside mosquito-prone shantytowns. This is at once a city of paradise and of hell. But Mumbai’s paradox is that it is often the dwellers of paradise who feel themselves in hell and the dwellers of hell who feel themselves in paradise.
