Some prostitutes in India are charging as much as Rs 2-lakh for 30-minutes of sex, according to a Reuters piece published in The New York Times.

Here’s an excerpt from the NYT story:

Zeba is one of thousands of high-price call girls servicing India’s nouveau riche and the throng of foreign businessmen drawn to a booming economy.

“If you have a modeling assignment, you have to work hard,” Zeba, who declined to give her full name in order to protect her identity, said in American-accented English.

“But over here, it’s just one hour. You talk to the person for half-an-hour and then the other half-an-hour in bed. You make a lot of money and it’s easy,” added Zeba, who charges 200,000 Indian rupees ($4,600) for an hour’s encounter, of which the escort agency keeps half.

….[Sameer] Chamadi and other escort agency owners insist their call girls are worth every cent and can do anything for their clients, from stimulating conversation to bondage fetishes.

“It’s a major, major, class difference, and with us it’s not just ‘slam, bang, thank you Ma’am’. You can actually sit and have a proper conversation with us,” said Zeba.

Voila. Next time, we want to have a stimulating conversation in India we know what to do. Or rather who to contact – 23-year-old model and actress Zeba.

Sadly, the NYT piece failed to provide Zeba’s vital statistics.

As anyone familiar with India knows, although prostitution is illegal in the country it flourishes openly in big cities and even small towns.

In India, we’ve encountered these little birds of the night in Chennai (Egmore and Wall Tax Road near Madras Central Station), Mumbai (in Dadar), Delhi (Connaught Place), Goa (Panjim), Bangalore (M.G.Road, City Market) and a few cities in-between.

But Rs 2-lakh ($4,600) for 30-minutes of horizontal calisthenics boggles the imagination.
