Fearing impeachment, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf resigned Monday ending a nine-year reign that began when he usurped power in a bloodless coup in October 1999.

“Whether I win or lose the impeachment, the nation will lose,” Musharraf (a former military chief) said in a televised address.
