Like an uxorious husband, we are inordinately fond of Latin.
We’ve been dropping Latin phrases into our spoken and written English for as long as we can remember.
Besides making us seem smarter than we really are, Latin has a certain cachet that plain vanilla English lacks.

Let’s start with in vino veritas.
In vino veritas translates into English as there is truth in wine, a mid-16th century proverbial saying.
In vino veritas means that people are likely to be honest under the influence of alcohol.
This Latin expression goes back to ancient Greece and is attributed to the lyric poet Alcaeus (c620-580 BC) from the island of Lesbos.
This might have got some more hits had you mentioned the “lesbian” connection here. 🙂

Why just Lesbians…gay men, hermaphrodites, transexuals, straight folks…everyone rocks.
We find it difficult to understand why society or the government should interfere in how people do it…or who should get married.

Ok, you are being serious.. I rarely am serious. I was talking about watching lesbians at work.. I wouldn’t even want a sneak peek at of gay men, hermaphrodites or transexuals..
I think I heard both Biden and Palin also talk in a similar vein against gay marriage in the VP debate.. Even Obama is opposed to it, I read.

Like most pols, Obama panders sometimes for the sake of winning elections. Unlike Republicans, Democrats do not demonize gays or gay marriage.
BTW, Philadelphia is now often sarcastically referred to as Killadephia because of the high murder rate.
