Vishal Bharadwaj’s Kaminey (Shahid Kapoor) has turned in a respectable show at the U.S. box office.
The fast-paced, decent thriller came in at No-20 and grossed $726,834 in its opening weekend (August 14-16, 2009) at the US. box office.
The movie, which opened in 82 theatres here, had an average gross of $8,864, according to boxofficemojo.
Kaminey’s average gross was higher than that of Akshay Kumar’s latest piece of trash Kambhakkht Ishq ($7,685).
Shahid Kapoor should be happy because his previous film Kismat Konnection had a poor opening in the U.S.
Take a deko at how Kaminey has fared compared to other prominent Bollywood films.
By the way, Life Partner featuring that fat shit Govinda, the non-actor Fardeen Khan and Genelia D’Souza is a complete disaster.
Cheers! So a well deserved BO status for Kaminey 😀

It seems to have done well in India too.
do good indian movies come at No 20 ? …..i mean generally what’s the range ?
SearchIndia.com Responds:
The successful Bollywood movies here usually figure in the top 20 in the opening weekend at the U.S. box office.
Rank also depends on Hollywood movies opening in that week. Of course, there are always some exceptions but the below table gives you the picture.
See the U.S. opening weekend ranks for some high profile Bollywood successful movies:
1. Jodhaa Akbar – #19
2. Om Shanti Om – #11
3. Race – # 18
4. Dhoom 2 – #17
5. Singh is Kinng – #14
6. Love Aaj Kal – #15
7. Kaminey – #20
U.S. opening weekend ranks for some high profile Bollywood duds:
1. Drona (Abhishek Bachchan) – #30
2. God Tussi Great Ho (Salman Khan) – #37
3. Luck – #34
4. Chandni Chowk to China – #26
5. Billu Barber – #27
6. Heroes – #25
Hope the director did not steal this from anyone. Off late, indian authors steal ideas and re-package them as books.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
We don’t think Kaminey is stolen shit but it’s hard to be completely certain when it comes to the Bollywood kamineys.
It was hilarious to see a video of Priyanka Chopra asking people not to engage in piracy of Kaminey.
Guess what, this creature profited from Bluffmaster, a lift of the Argentine film Nueve Reinas.
This is the bizarre Indian logic – It’s OK for me to make money from stolen stuff but it’s not OK for you to steal my stuff.
The movie is not a ripoff but definitely the script writing is influenced by movies such as Lock, Stock and Two smoking barrels, Snatch and Mercy Streets.
Director takes ideas from different movies, works on it to make it more original by also adding Indian elements to it.
Like he did with Omkara which was influenced by movie “Othello”. For those of you who haven’t seen Mercy Streets, its a movie about Twin Brothers, one is a conman and the other is a priest and how they both get involved in crime.

Alas, the SRK airport drama robbed Kaminey of much of the buzz.
Yeah plus also the reports are that the movie might just be an easy earner instead of a hit.
Disappointment is that even though the movie has got the best reviews by the critics ever, majority of the public response (especially in India) hasn’t been fair. UTV invested 40 crore in this movie. Movie has made 27 crore so far and will get about 7-8 crore overseas share and rest from Satellite, Music and Home Video according to Indian box office Report.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
BoxofficeIndia speaks of an excellent opening but not sure of following days…since there are no major releases tomorrow Kaminey still has some legs.
Have you guys heared the news about Jagannath Sena filing an FIR against the makers of kaminey because of disrepecting their religious sentiments? I haven’t seen the movie so I am not sure what exactly are they referring to when it comes to name “Jagannath on a toilet paper or something” but the question to these people is that “WHAT F****** century are you F**** living it?” So sick of this $hit!
SearchIndia.com Responds:
You write: I haven’t seen the movie so I am not sure what exactly are they referring to when it comes to name “Jagannath on a toilet paper or something”
But on August 15th, 2009 at 7:08 pm, you wrote:
So, have you seen the movie or not?
Make up your mind. That is, if you care about your credibility.
We’ve always believed that you are a shill for a big Bollywood star (we know who it is) and have never given much credence to your comments here. And your above comment today only confirms our suspicion.
Mallika Busted! funny..

Here’s hoping it won’t be back.
