Movie City on Oak Tree Road, Edison (New Jersey), which screens Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada movies, is one of the worst theaters we’ve been to in the U.S.
The AC doesn’t work, picture quality is bad (scenes are horizontally split on screen sometimes), the toilets are in very, very bad shape, the Samosas they sell in the concession stand are pathetic and inedible, and overall Movie City is a disgustingly lousy movie hall.
It’s sheer agony to watch a movie at Movie City.
The theater’s management ought to be ashamed of itself.
Edison Township must inspect this awful theater and revoke its license.
We’ve heard that Ad Labs has taken over this theater. Let’s hope they fix Movie City soon before the crowds completely disappear.
In case you are wondering, the only reason we visit Movie City is because Tamil movies are usually not screened in mainstream American theaters like Regal or AMC, which screen Hindi movies routinely.
Update 1: When we went to watch Raman Thediya Seethai for the 7:05PM show on 9/19/2008 at this rat-hole a.k.a. Movie City, the idiots at the counter sold us a ticket with hall number #6 printed on the ticket. But when we went sat in hall # 6 (after confirming with the staff), the movie never started. Only after repeatedly calling the theatre on our cell phone did we discover that they had changed the screening to a different hall. The staff were clueless and never even cared to apologize. We were livid. If Anil Ambani has any sense, he’d fire the idiots running the Phoenix Theatre business in the U.S. It’s badly managed.
Update 2: When we went to watch Drona on 10/1/2008 at Movie City, we were told by the guy at the counter there were no shows around 6:00PM and were sold tickets for the 7:35PM show. But after calling the theatre and watching some desis go inside, we went and checked again at the counter. This time the counter clerk told us there was a Drona screening at 6:00PM and that we could use the ticket for the 7:35PM show. No explanations were offered as to why he’d said there was no show at 6:00PM just a few minutes earlier.

You write above: Woah..are you really in the US
No, we are in Paramakudi.
Adachi, po.
Adachi, po.. very funny .. A catfight! 🙂
I think that the theater is a big factor..
I watched “The Dark Knight” in IMAX and QoS in a regular theater.. the difference is massive.. Not sure if I would have enjoyed Knight as much in a regular theater.
